Repetition with Jasper Johns

Fall 2025 was the rise of Six Seeevveeen. When you can’t beat them, annoy them.

This was 67 week in my classroom. While sixth grade worked on a fractured value lesson focusing on the element of art Value, my 7th and 8th graders explored repetition taking inspiration from Jasper Johns and his Numbers Series. Students traced and drew the numbers with the goal to create interest by overlapping. They then refreshed knowledge about warm and cool colors by coloring one warm and one cool. They finally had to make their artwork ready for display.

Over all this was one of my most successful projects this semester. Almost every student submitted. We also didn’t have the ability to replicate which in a way forced creativity. Students could color as they choose, pick whatever number they wanted, and to me the most important part was have a displayable piece.

I won’t lie the play list made it better. Also linked below
